MTG Deckbuilder's Chaos Magic

What is Chaos Magic?

Chaos Magic takes place on a chaotic plane, where the normal rules of Magic have changed.

Basically, play starts out by rolling dice and checking the results to get a World. This World is a permanent effect that affects both players and changes the normal magic rules.

At the start of each player's turn, that player rolls dice and checks the results to get a one-time Event to occur. That player gets to use that Event. This continues throughout the rest of the game.

What do I need to play Chaos Magic?

Rules for Chaos Magic

Decide on one of the colored dice to be the "tens" and the other one to be the "ones". When rolled, you will now be able to get a number between 00 and 99. We will call this D% from now on.

Decide who goes first. That player rolls D% and checks the number to the corresponding World on the World Chart. Whatever World is rolled, that World stays in effect for the rest of the game. This World affects both players and cannot be destroyed, unless an Event is rolled that changes the World.

Play magic like you normally would, with one exception. At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player rolls D%. Check this number with the corresponding Event on the Event Chart. That player then immediately resolves that Event by picking the target(s), if applicable. If there is no possible legal target, or the Event can't resolve for some reason, that Event is ignored.

If the Event, "Change the World, reroll on World Chart" is rolled, reroll and check the result on the World Chart. Replace the original World with the newly rolled World.

Example of Chaos Magic

Let's run through a few sample turns of Chaos Magic between Caine and JP Dragon X.

It's decided that Caine goes first. Caine rolls D% and checks the results with the World Chart. He rolls a 69 and looks up number 69 on the World Chart. It says "At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player gains 1 life for each card in target opponent's hand." This world will stay in play for the rest of the game unless an event changes the world.

Play starts out like normal with both players drawing their cards. During Caine's upkeep, he gains 7 life. He then rolls on the Event Chart. He rolls a 01 and checks 01 with the event on the Event Chart. It says "Target player draws 3 cards.".Caine picks himself and draws 3 cards. It then moves onto his main phase where he plays a Forest and a Llanowar Elves. He discards a card and finishes his turn.

It is now JP's upkeep. He gains 7 life due to the effect of the World. He then rolls on the Event Chart and gets a 29. It says "Destroy target land.". He then destroys Caine's Forest. He then continues his turn by drawing a card and playing an Island and a Merfolk of the Pearl Trident. He ends his turn with 6 cards.

During Caine's upkeep, he gains 6 life due to the World. He then rolls on the Event Chart and gets a 44. 44 on the chart reads: "Change the World. Reroll on World Chart. ". So Caine rolls the dice and gets a 28. 28 reads: "All creatures gain echo.". This now replaces the old World and is in effect until the world changes or the game ends.

This continues for the rest of the game. Caine beats him at the end by the way.
