MTG DeckbuildersMy Magic BeginningsI first started in late '93. The local comic store had one starter of unlimited and i bought it just to try something new. unfortunately, it was about 6 months later before any other cards came in. So i had this nice starter of cards with nevinyrral's disk and vesuvan doppleganger but had no one to play with. Finally my friends bought some packs and we played. It was instant addiction. We were hooked and soon got everyone else in town to play. We had to travel an hour away to get cards, but it was worth it. Unfortunately the unlimited rulebook was about as easy to figure out as trying to figure out why they printed tolarian academy, so we had a lot of problems. One major problem we had was with the concept of mana burn. There was only one small paragraph on it in the rulebook. Being as slow as I am, that wasn't much help. We interpreted it to the fact that we had to take damage for every land that was untapped at the end of our turn. This made us really wonder why people would play counterspells(if only it wasn't like that). Another thing we were mistaken on, was targets. We didn't think players could be targeted as Fireball would be too powerful if that was the case. Fireball at the time read: Do X damage to any target. So, going back a little, there were only three of us that played originally, so we basically split up the cards as best as we could. I got blue and green as i loved fatties and clones(mahamoti was one of my favorite cards), my one friend got black and white as he loved circles, and the other guy got red and artifacts, as he was my friend's little brother and usually got the shaft. My deck at the time was a 3-400 card monstrosity that usually tried to see how many mahamoti djinns it could get into play at one time. I was eventually a partner at the comic store and we got everyone in town to start playing, we eventually learned the rules, and we learned how to make real decks.
